If you run a small food business, you have probably found the same thing we did: the digital SFBB tools that exist are mostly aimed at multi-site operators with a compliance budget. A single cafe looking to stop losing its paper diary ends up paying a monthly fee for a system built for a chain, or it stays on paper.
So the honest version of this page is short. Everything below is included, free, on both iOS and Android.

What it costs
Nothing. There is no subscription, no per-site fee, no per-user fee, no setup charge and no trial period that ends. There is no advertising in the app, and we do not sell your data. Your diary, staff records, suppliers and allergen answers are visible only to you and the people you invite.
The catch, such as it is
We would rather say this plainly than have you find it out later.
- This is an app, so you need a phone or a browser and a way to keep it charged in a hot kitchen. Paper does not run out of battery.
- It is our reading of the SFBB pack. It is assured through our Primary Authority partnership with Buckinghamshire and Surrey Trading Standards, but your own local authority has the final say on your food safety management system, as it always has.
- We are not the Food Standards Agency and we are not affiliated with them. We print onto their published forms and we use their published rating data.
- We may build paid features one day. If we do, they will be new things layered on top. We are not going to take a feature you rely on today and put a price on it tomorrow.
Common questions
Is the SFBB app really free?
Yes. The full Safer Food, Better Business pack, all the temperature and training records, team access, multiple sites and every PDF export are free on iOS and Android. There is no subscription and no trial that expires.
Do I have to pay to export my records as a PDF?
No. Every export is free, including the full EHO pack for a date range you choose. Locking exports behind a fee would make the records less useful precisely when you need them most.
Are there ads in the app?
No. There is no advertising anywhere in the app, and we do not sell your data.
Is it free for more than one site?
Yes. You can add every establishment you run to one account and keep each pack separate. There is no per-site or per-user charge.
What happens to my records if I stop using it?
Your whole pack prints to PDF at any time, so you can take your records with you. If you close your account we erase your data for good.
Does a digital diary satisfy my environmental health officer?
SFBB records do not have to be on paper, and the app prints onto the official FSA forms so what you hand over is the pack your inspector already knows. Your local authority is always the one that assesses your food safety management system, so if you are unsure, show them the exported pack and ask.
