Check any UK food business, and keep your own food safety records
The Food Safety App does two jobs at once: it shows the official food hygiene rating of every business on the UK register, and it holds the Safer Food, Better Business records a caterer is expected to keep. It is free on iOS, Android and the web, with no ads and nothing held back behind a paid tier.
Deciding where to eat
Look a business up by name or address, or photograph the shopfront and let the app match it against the Food Standards Agency's own record. Each rating is shown with the date of the inspection that produced it and the sub-scores behind it, and you can follow a business to hear when its rating changes or when an allergy or product recall alert names it. Nothing here needs an account. Search the register, or read what the app shows a diner on checking a business before you eat.
Running a food business
Keep the whole SFBB pack on a phone: the daily diary, fridge and cooking temperatures, the safe method sheets, the allergen chart, staff training and supplier records - printed onto the FSA's own forms and exported as a single PDF when an inspector asks for them. Claiming your business also gives it a free public listing on the map. See what the SFBB pack covers.
The register as a whole
The Data Explorer asks questions of the register itself: what has opened, closed or changed rating near you, how local authorities and chains compare, and which high streets come out best. The register is also browsable straight through: every local authority, every chain, and every kind of food business.
